Assumptions Kids Make
Gretta: What are you eating?
Me: Peanuts.
Gretta: I don't want any.
Me: Um... that's good.

Accordance and Olive Tree Interview →
Here’s a podcast of two brief interviews during SBL 2011 with representatives from Accordance and Olive Tree. These are two of the premier Bible softwares available for both Mac OS and iOS.
What’s encouraging about the interviews is that though Brady is a biblical scholar teaching at PSU, he agrees with my sentiment, that though Accordance is clearly the more powerful program when...

Gretta: What did you do at work last night?
Me: I was helping some really sick people get better.
Gretta: Like Jesus?!? That's so funny!

Embarrassment
Parents (like myself) are easily embarrassed when their kids cry and throw fits in public, even to the point of being paralyzed when those kids refuse to follow instructions. For fear of “making a scene” parents capitulate, bargain, plead, and even whine at their kids. Foolishness is bound up in their hearts, but kids aren’t stupid. They can quickly learn how to get their way,...

That Lovin' Feeling
This morning I asked Gretta if she loved mommy. Being in one of her pleasantly contrarian moods, she replied, “No.” Coincidentally, at that precise moment, “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling” started playing on Pandora Radio. Naturally, Amanda and I took the opportunity to serenade Gretta and ask her to bring it back.

Eyes on the Prize
Whether you’re a minister in a local church, a missionary overseas, or a Christian making his way through this world, it is easy to be distracted by what you THINK is your goal. It could be a clean house, a good name, well-behaved kids, governmental integrity, or even a church full of Spirit-filled God-lovers. None of these are bad, UNLESS they distract us from our true goal.

Tuesday is for Tunes
Just a couple solo albums that have been wearing out my ear buds recently.
Jon Foreman’s Limbs and Branches & John Mark McMillan’s The Medicine.
I don’t need to tell you much about them; you know how to Google. But here’s why I’m listening to them. First, I like the music, but I am so floored by the insight of the poetry and the honesty of the lyrics. These...

Conversation with Gretta about Babies
Me: Is there a baby in mommy’s belly?
Gretta: Yes, & I have a baby in my belly too.
Me: Um, no you don’t.
Gretta: But I will in a little bit…
Me: Sure, in a little bit.
Amanda: But you have to have a prince first.
Gretta: Noooo, I don’t want a prince!
Me: (Whew!)

My Muscle Car
Finally a dry morning when I wasn’t at work or dead asleep from working all night! So I finally got around to fixing that squeaky belt on my car. It was sounding just like a Mustang… that just had its legs broken.
All of Life is Worship
Worship is not limited to what we offer God as we sing and pray on Sundays. In reality, worship is not even limited to what we offer God. Every act, every thought, every word - it is all worship, directed at the True God or a false one.

Christian Ministry
When you think of “ministry”, do you tend to think more of organizing or facilitating an activity/event, or do you think more of acting like an authentic Christian, whatever situation you’re in? The first is not to be excluded, but the church needs more of the second kind of thinking right now.

How NOT To Be a Missional Church: Social... →
Third and final installment if this series at theResurgence. Particularly challenging for me. It’s hip to be all about social action and compassion… as long as you don’t insist that ALL people are broken and doomed, and Jesus is the only one who can fix them.
How NOT To Be a Missional Church:... →
Part 2 of a great little series. Big question: Are you trying to make people admit you’re right, or trying to get them to fall in love with Jesus and his bride?
