garrett ad nauseum

There is such a thing as too much of a good thing. Read on if you're not convinced.

Embarrassment

Parents (like myself) are easily embarrassed when their kids cry and throw fits in public, even to the point of being paralyzed when those kids refuse to follow instructions. For fear of “making a scene” parents capitulate, bargain, plead, and even whine at their kids. Foolishness is bound up in their hearts, but kids aren’t stupid. They can quickly learn how to get their way, and even if they only get it by kicking and screaming, they’ll soon learn who’s really in charge.

Parents, there are worse things than a child screaming and “creating a scene.” Like a child who grows up thinking he is a sovereign instead of a servant, the center instead of a member. So endure and deal with the fuss, and teach your kids that there is a Sovereign and they are a part of a family, not the center of one.
